Phaseolus vulgaris

Annual plant, open pollinated.

Bush bean. Dry bean. Snap bean.

This bean is similar to Jacob's cattle in coloration, but the seed is slightly smaller and more oval. This old Hungarian heirloom is an all purpose bean, used a green snap bean when very young, and in baking as a dry bean. It is a bush variety that sometimes has short runners.

Days to maturity: 90 days for snap beans.

30 seeds per pack.

Seed starting:

For bush beans, pole beans and runner beans.

Direct seed in your garden once all danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. Beans do not tolerate frost. Early June is when we plant around here. Sow seed about 1” deep. Darker coloured seeds tend to germinate better in cooler soils.

Pole beans and runner beans need something to climb!
