Phaseolus vulgaris

Annual plant, open pollinated.

Pole bean. Dry and green beans.

An excellent heirloom used in soups and and stews, with meaty, nutty texture. It makes for a delicious buttery late crop of green beans that are not stringy, delicious steamed or boiled. This variety dates back to the 1930s, and is named after Carie Belle Stallard of Wise County in Virginia.

Days to maturity: 90 days for green beans, 120 days for dry beans.

30 seeds per pack.

Seed starting:

For bush beans, pole beans and runner beans.

Direct seed in your garden once all danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. Beans do not tolerate frost. Early June is when we plant around here. Sow seed about 1” deep. Darker coloured seeds tend to germinate better in cooler soils.

Pole beans and runner beans need something to climb!
