Melothria scabra.

Annual plant, open pollinated.

The cucamelon resembles a tiny, bite-sized cucumber or watermelon. It is native to Mexico and Central America. The plant will produce lots of small vines that will grow on just about everything nearby - I grow them on a trellis and that works wonderfully.  The cucamelon is more sour/citrusy than a cucumber : some like to eat them fresh or pickle them for a crunchy snack.  Harvest when the plant is around 1 inch long.

67 days to maturity (after transplant).

20 seeds per pack.

Seed starting

Start seed indoors, sow 1/4inch deep, 4 weeks before last frost. Cucamelons need warm soil to germinate. Transplant outside when all danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. You can also plant this seed directly outside once the soil has warmed, in early June.
