Nicotiana alata

No part of this plant can be smoked. It is not a smoking tobacco. This plant is an ornamental tobacco. 

Annual, Open-pollinated.

This beautiful ornamental tobacco from the Alata family blooms all summer. It bears typical trumpet like nicotiana flowers that are crimson and striking. It grows to about 3 feet in height.

This is a great addition to the flower garden, and also works well as a background plant for other flowers.

Seed starting:

Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost in your region. The seeds are tiny! Scatter them on top of a compacted moist soil, and water them carefully (I like to mist them heavily with a spray bottle).  The seed require light to germinate so don’t cover them up :).  This is a sun plant - loves the sun and warmth. Germination takes about 1 to 2 weeks. 

Transplant outside in a sunny spot once all danger of frost has passed.
