Nicotiana tabacum.

Annual, Open-pollinated.

This is an interesting variety of cigar tobacco that is traditionally shade-grown.  I grew it between a row of peas and a row of very tall sorghum, and it did beautifully shaded from the sun.  Its long thing leaves are traditionally used as wrappers for high-quality cigars. The flavour pallet is said to be mild, sweet and creamy.

It gets its name from its costly cultivation in the Connecticut River Valley. Its cultivation is in great decline.

Here is a video explaining the difference between sun-grown and shade-grown tobacco :

100 seeds per pack.

Days to maturity: 65 days

Seed starting:

Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost in your region. The seeds are tiny! Scatter them on top of a compacted moist soil, and water them carefully (I like to mist them heavily with a spray bottle).  The seed require light to germinate so don’t cover them up :).  This is a sun plant - loves the sun and warmth. Germination takes about 1 to 2 weeks.  Transplant outside in a sunny spot once all danger of frost has passed.
