Nepeta cataria
Catnip, also known as cat mint, is a delicious perennial herb to have in the garden. Your cats will love it (as mine do), but it's also great as a sleepy time tea or as a soothing tea for colds. Apparently it also repels mice and rats - perhaps because of all the cat attention it receives.
It is originally native to the Mediterranean basin, but naturalized throughout Europe and Turtle Island for a long time now.
It is a perennial in Zones 3 and up.
50 seeds per pack.
Seed starting:
Sow indoors 4 weeks before last frost. Scatter the seed on moist soil, barely covering the soil, and use a mister to water the seed. Transplant outside once the seedlings are 1-2 inches tall. ALTERNATIVELY / MORE EASILY : scatter seeds directly in garden before last frost, or scatter in garden in the fall before winter and cover lightly.
