Nicotiana rustica

Annual, Open-pollinated.

The origin of the discovery of these seeds is pretty special: they are said to have been discovered sealed with pitch in pottery that was carbon dated to be over 1000 year old, at a burial site near the Great Lakes.

These plants are light green fuzzy leaves, short, and produce a compact yellow flower. It is mostly used as a ceremonial tobacco.

Leaves have a nicotine content of about 9%.  It is a very strong tobacco.  The leaves of this plant have also been used to make a natural pesticide due to its high nicotine content.

100 seeds per pack.

Days to maturity: 65 days

Seed starting:

Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost in your region. The seeds are tiny! Scatter them on top of a compacted moist soil, and water them carefully (I like to mist them heavily with a spray bottle).  The seed require light to germinate so don’t cover them up :).  This is a sun plant - loves the sun and warmth. Germination takes about 1 to 2 weeks.  Transplant outside in a sunny spot once all danger of frost has passed.
